Proofpoint Acquires MSSP InteliSecure, Enhances DLP Solution

Proofpoint is acquiring InteliSecure, a Top 250 MSSP, for $62.5 million in cash. The deal adds approximately 150 employees to Proofpoint's global team and is expected to be finalized during the first quarter of 2021.

Upon completion, the InteliSecure acquisition is projected to increase Proofpoint's 2021 revenue by approximately $10 million, the companies indicated. It also will help Proofpoint reduce its non-GAAP net income range by approximately $5 million.

InteliSecure's managed service capabilities complement Proofpoint's information protection solution and Premium Security Services, the companies indicated. They empower Proofpoint to simplify data protection for its customers by streamlining policy creation, providing unified event visibility across tools and delivering real-time reporting.

The InteliSecure acquisition will allow Proofpoint to deliver managed security services that leverage InteliSecure data loss prevention (DLP) technology and expertise, the companies said. In doing so, it is expected to bolster Proofpoint's Enterprise DLP solution and help the company support its channel partner ecosystem's service delivery.

A Closer Look at InteliSecure

InteliSecure is a vendor-neutral managed data protection service provider, the company noted. It helps organizations protect intellectual property (IP), personally identifiable information (PII) and other sensitive data from internal and external threats.

The InteliSecure managed data protection portfolio includes:

  • Cloud Security: Enables organizations to apply security policies consistently across multiple cloud providers
  • Data Security: Helps organizations protect data at rest, in use and in motion either on premises or in the cloud
  • Security Analytics: Allows organizations to analyze user and system behavior and tailor their security controls accordingly
  • Web and Email Gateways: Protects communications by encrypting outgoing emails and decrypting incoming emails

    • In addition, InteliSecure provides professional services to help organizations implement security technologies and design security programs, the company stated. It also offers penetration testing services that allow organizations to test the security of internal and external applications.

    Meanwhile, M&A activity across the MSSP market remains quite strong -- though valuations are rarely disclosed.
